Featured Dating a necklace

Help dating this gorgeous mother of pearl/quartz? necklace? Clasp is sterling.

 

Hi Ashley. It was made by a hobbyist, not a commercial jeweller. Could be anytime from yesterday to 20 or more years ago.

 

I'd have guessed craft show piece; most hobbyists don't use fancy sterling clasps. Given the hook design I'd guess made post-2000 and probably post-2010. But that is just a guess.

@Ashley Felton Yes, mother of pearl & quartz chips. I think I may see the place, but how/where is the clasp marked sterling? It looks very much like the 'hill silver' findings & spacer beads my bead store used to carry.

This is very simply strung on beading wire or monofilament, secured with a couple of crimp tubes on each end. The clasp does not look high quality to me. Basically, I figure if I could make it, & I could, the level of design & work is hobbyist. This would not turn up at the crafts shows I attend. Street fair maybe. Not to say it isn't pretty. If you're selling, you might get $35 - 40 for it, no matter who made it or where it was sold, if it was sold.

You might, if someone liked it enough. It looks like something I might have made when I was first getting into making bead jewellery, before I learned to knot & became familiar with more materials. You start by making things for yourself. Then you run out of neck space & start giving things to friends. Then you need to start selling to fund your bead habit. This looks like Stage 2 to me.

 

Doesn’t say sterling. Tested .
