Dark Metal Jewelry

    I thought I would start this thread here even though I don't have any pictures right now. I was asking about a piece in the metalware forum.

    I'm sure you've seen it before. Dark metal jewelry that doesn't obviously look like tarnished silver.

    Do silver alloys tarnish? Is is a fairly popular look in jewelry that maybe it's not a silver product at all?

    By alloys are you referring specifically to lower than sterling? Of course, they do.

    I'm pretty sure it would be. I've found a lot of it, and haven't experimented yet in polishing it. I think sterling would probably show itself as being silver. If you look at the "Dark Metal Menora" thread in Metalware, the color is pretty uniformly a shade of black.

    There is jewelry that is dark gray called gunmetal gray.

    Any metal can be darkened and there are many different darkening techniques.
