009.JPG 010.JPG 012.JPG 011.JPG Here is the other stein I got today. It is marked 2002 on bottom but almost doesn't look like a date to me, could it be the run number or something ? Also, anybody know where it was made and when or any other info ?

    Thank You

Franz Josef was male and wasn't ruling Australia...

Maria Theresia Dei Gratia Romanorum Imperatrix, Hungariae Bohemiaeque Regina

    M. THERESIA. D. G. R. IMP. HU. BO. REG.

Maria Theresia is on one side. On the other side is Franz Joseph. Both are images from coins.

FRANZ JOS I.D.C. AUSTRIALE IMPERATOR, meaning to say Franz Joseph emperor of Austria, not Australia.;) It seems to come from a token, not a coin.

    Just a side note.

Many Americans are unaware that the word Dollar originated from the word Thaler as in Maria Theresa Thaler

From the Flemish Daler or German word Taler (Thaler)

Apparently Thaler is short for Joachimsthaler.
The Bohemian town of Joachimsthal, now Jáchymov, was the site of an important silvermine. Silver coins were also minted there for use in many parts of Europe. They were called Joachimsthaler coins, or Thaler for short.
Until the introduction of the Euro we still used the term 'daalder' for 1 guilder 50 cents, even though the daalder coin had been obsolete for a long time.

And here I thought a Thaler was someone who lived in a German valley.
