    Hi all!
I know its not much to go on, but I have this lovely still life that has been cut down (prior to it reaching my hands) probably to fit into a frame. Unfortunately, the artists name and date have been shaved off too! Why would someone do that?!

To my eyes, the last 4 characters look like a date which *might* read 1958 or 1959.
Im trying to decipher the signature and wonder if anyone here might have any insights.
All I know is that its mid-century, and it's from Denmark.
Any Scandi art enthusiasts amongst us?

Finally, an artist with a legible signature, and someone chops the bottom off the painting!
Looks like CHRIS, and I think you're right about 1958 or 59.

I first thought CHRIS too - but then I thought "what if it were C. H..... or C. H. R......"? I get the feeling there are initials, and a surname.

You could be right. What looks like the top of an I, looks a bit smaller.

It is "blind frame" , it should be readable underneath...

It looks like an unframed panel to me, no blind frame either, since it is a panel. This is what Rory wrote:

I think it has been framed previously, as the sealant has yellowed with the exception of a 4-5mm space around the edges.

Can you show the back of the painting?

Theres not much to go with there, Makanudo... just a tiny fragment of gilded lettering (or similar). See pics.
