    Hi folks

found this sweet little ring out thrifting today in a charity shop (wink)

it was really tarnished or covered in crud (like you can see on the top inbetween the prongs)

thought it had potential, even though has no hallmarks at all

the stone has a slight pinky yellowy orange tinge

wondering your thoughts really, think it might have some age, victorian ?

thinking it might be gold, but will have to get it tested to be sure

gave it a once over with a sunshine cloth, and looks promising

the bits of blue fluff are from the cloth

    any thoughts or info appreciated

Could you show the stone against something other than your slight pinky yellowy orange tinge fingers?

Think if I showed this to my jeweller he would proclaim it 1950s 10k gold with a glass stone. Yes, when gold was at a more down to earth price, it could be used to set glass.

If you are taking it to have the metal tested ask them to test the stone if they can. It is near impossible to ID a stone like this from a photo :(

the pink is all me, the yellow and orange a mix of smoking and fake tan :playful::)

Think that it's too much to hope it is padparadscha sapphire, the only stone I can think of with that combo of colors.

Word of the day: pleochroism. Think morganite would be a stretch.

I'd take a gem tester to it. The setting looks older than dirt, but the stone could be anything. In the Old Days, jewelers used what they could get. Glass wouldn't surprise me, but if it's Georgian neither would a Padparadscha if one happened to turn up.

Spinels were common in Georgian jewellery.

They vanished into the haze these days, but they were cool.

With that pale peachy look, could it be Imperial topaz?
That collet setting sure looks Georgian to me.

I did consider imperial topaz, but I don’t think it’s glowy enough. And for the age, I don’t think it was available much, given its Brazilian.

I love imperial topaz. Went to H Stern in Rio and drooled.
