The 3 pear-shaped stones are cut on the face, but cast below the girdle; the others are uncut, all cast. The movable part of the clasp locks the pin at either stop, allowing the pin in or out only in the middle of its travel. When did this style catch begin to be used? It is ~1 1/2" X ~1 1/8", an' plainly brass. Pre, or post-war? Thanks for lookin'!

The mark looks pre-War but the design is 50s/60s. My guess is someone found an old stash and used it.

That plaque is 20s or 30s. May well be actual garnets on the outer. It's feasible that it was an oval brooch with a later addition.

That would be very nice! I'll have a friend (jeweler/gemologist) take a look at it next time I see him...an' report here!

He needs to look at every stone, it's common to get a mix of glass and garnet. I suspect the inner flower isn't.

I'd be wondering if it wasn't the other way around. Who'd put a real garnet in a closed cup? The rounds all look identical, usually an indicator for glass. But not always, so...?

Perhaps not always...but in this case they are plainly cast glass rounds. An' the evidence is pretty strong that the pears are as well, though maybe cut above the girdle.
