Featured Creepy? Old Photo

Hi All,
I sold this photo about 10 years ago and now it has come back to me I showed it on the Ebay boards back then, thought folks might want to see it again. Notice the face looking out from behind the curtain in the window.
Not sure why their eyes are so dark, little creepy to me. Two figures in the background, not part of the family I guess

 

the people that bought it owned a restaurant, they bought lots of pieces from me over the years to put on the walls there. Now they have sold the business and got rid of lots of the photos/art/mirrors/leaded glass windows.

 

yer eyes would look creepy too if u had 5 kids in a row..........

 

Seems odd that the trees and plants are tinted, but the people are not (except are their cheeks lightly tinted pink?). The selective tinting of the plants seems like a more modern way to do it. Was wondering whether it could be a more modern print of an older photo, enhanced to seem creepy instead of just poignant. Yet the frame does seem old.... so, I don't know.

The guy up front reminds me of one of the Observers from the tv show Fringe.

 

thanks fig I'm not an expert on tinting or photographs, but I'm pretty sure this is an original old one. I thought tinting on only the mom, but just looked at the photo, light tinting to the cheeks on all but the dad, not sure what is up with his face.

lol, I didn't notice that Dave I hate taking photographs of pictures, so hard to get them without some reflection.

 

There is still a market for creepy photos. A seller on etsy does nicely with scary photos and such.

 

I'll sell it locally, it is convex glass, the frame is 18"W x 25"L, would cost quite a bit to ship.

 

Creepy creepy creepy ... imagine that lot walking towards you one stormy moonlit night. Creepy big time. There's a sort of despair about it, too.

 

Yes, that girl in the center of the photo looks demonic.

 

Davey used to be a policeman,he ALWAYS surprises me with things he notices ! That poor mother looks drained . Like shes praying for death to come get her!

 

SIMPLE!!.....it's the ADDAMS FAMILY!!!!!! That's Luurch back behind and peeking out the curtain.....he REALLY doesn't like his picture taken.............!

 

What a sad picture! Only 1 child looks reasonably happy...

 

Hmmmm, I hesitated before posting my opinion but . . .

I wonder if it was taken of "the family" about the time of or shortly after the (Spanish) Influenza pandemic in the early 1900s.

A while back I posted a photo of my father(the youngest child) and his two sisters and his (slightly older) brother which my grandparents had taken to "record" their children having survived that horrible time/situation.

I imagine that quite a few families had a special photo taken of their loved ones following that dreadful time in USA history.

 

gotta wonder who the guy in the background is? Possibly the Undertaker??? LOL

I have to agree with yourturntoloveit... it does look as if they have all been quite ill. And yes, I can see where a photo may be in order after such an ordeal to prove to loved ones far away that they are still among the living. They do look rather creepy - but put in the prospective of "recovering" it makes sense. The woman peeking out - may have been a neighbor who didn't want to "catch it" or didn't think she was visible and the little boy... LOL... a nosy neighbor kid! A fascinating photo - really!
