Featured craved wood lamp base.

    dear all

    i think it is mum's lamp stand, so probably not old old. no mark.
    just wondering what kind of wood and if it is stained to look like rosewood :p:D

    Yes, it is stained. But a very nice base, and it does have a bit of age. I think mid century.
    There is a mark/signature, but I don't know the next thing about marks on wood. A house character? Probably not significant to the value.

    You don't think it is rosewood?
    Has ivory or bone teeth and what look like glass eyes.

    One of the immortals, but I don't know which one.
    Might be 1930s.

    I'm only guessing though.

    The cracks are a lighter wood. That bone and glass inlay for eyes and teeth was still done ca 1970.
    It looks like one of the star Gods, Shou Xing.

    My parents had quite a few of these carvings, from around 1950-60; theirs had been obtained in India, I think, though showing Chinese themes. The color was exactly like this, with bone teeth. I don't know the name used there for this wood, but they were all made from the same wood. It isn't rosewood, though.

    tq all! stained rosewood 1950-60s. i can call it vintage then :p:joyful::D
    can't read chinese but it probably won't matter as AJ said. it is a bit hard shifting these stuff over where i am but i am hoping 2018 will be a good year :happy::hilarious:;)
