Courting mirrors - 18th century or...?

    Just watched this Youtube video. Mr Johnson strikes again. Even he wasn't sure about all the particulars. I think this one at least is 18th century for sure, and someone else mentioned Northern European tradition. I figured this bunch might include someone who knows even more.
