    Hi Everyone

I wonder if anyone can help me with this coin
that i brought from a car boot sale about 20
years ago it only cost me about £2 back then.

It weighs about 23 grams and is approx 38mm
    in diameter.

I know that the genuine coin is quite valuable but
because of the copper color showing on the head
side i believe this to be a fake.

I would be grateful if anyone can help me tell if it
    is a fake or not.

    all the best

Details look a little mushy especially on the obverse and there appears to be uneven wear patterns on the reverse. I'd consider the likelihood of this coin being fake to be fairly high.

Davey can probably tell you more about this.
All I can say is, there are counterfeit 1898 'Wilhelmina rijksdaalders'. And the real ones are seldom good quality and often show discoloration.

    Yes, very nice photos.
The wear on the lion shield looks unnatural.

Ordinarily I'd expect the edges to be more worn than the center. For the lion to be that worn down while the lettering is clear is...odd. I'd get an exact weight on the real deal and then weigh this one. That should tell the tale.

Thanks for everyone's helpful replies, and
kind comments on the quality of my photos:)

And as far as the weight goes the genuine coin
    apparently weighs 25 grams.

    Thanks again everyone.:)

It should weigh 25g and if real would have a catalog value of around $400-$500
    Check it with a magnet.
The real deal has a high silver content of 94.5% so it should not be showing the copper alloy.
