This first vase is marked Czechoslovakia and I found a web page that showed similar called Furnace glass from Kralik? Is this an example? Measures 8 1/2" high. Here's the pics --

This 2nd vase is very small. It measures about 4 1/2" high. It is marked 131 on the bottom. I'm not sure if the painting is black paint, silver overlay that has tarnished, or something else. Personally, I don't think it's silver overlay, that was suggested to me by someone else who looked at it. Is it also a Kralik? Or some other maker?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Ola,

Let me look into it. I don't believe your pieces are Kralik.

laurag -- I googled Tango and saw some very similar pieces. The one piece that was most like my 1st vase was a footed bowl with the same black glass treatment. Identified as tango, powolny, loetz . . . all the KW's.

I'm going to start with your second piece. I have seen and asked a few experts about Glass with painted on decor and have been told they are pretty hard to narrow down a manufacturer. There were quite a few glass houses producing this kind of ware. Without a definitive signature, almost impossible to nail down. Yours has 131 on the base, someone mat be able to id it from that, or even the shape.

As far as the first piece. The acid signature is all wrong for Kralik. Kralik used an "Arched" signature. If you check out the link posted below and check out Fig. 6 That is a great example of the arched mark. That straight line mark was used by a few houses and could prove difficult to nail down .I am going to cross post this to another message board as I have a hunch as to who in fact did make it.

    Ola,

Loetz or Powolny are only good keywords if you are keyword spamming.

Am I right that there is no sign: Czechoslovakia at the bottom of eBay vase and it is possible, that vase is old, but another is signed Czechoslovakia and it is just reproduction? Also though "Czechoslovakia" was created at 1918, I don't think there was using this sign in English for Antique / Vintage glass items. European Items marked in English or with name of country or "Made in ....." can't be made so early. :sorry:

I had a chat with my Glass Guru. I thought the piece may have been "Ruckl"

I am going to copy/paste my conversation with him. It will be easier and probably make more sense LOL

Me: Another cross post for a friend. I have seen this decor online a few times and wonder if anybody could possibly shed some light on who actually made it. I have seen it attributed to Loetz, Kralik, Ruckl etc (I don't know why but I am leaning towards it possibly being Ruckl)

Craig Orkney: I have never seen anything supportable that would indicate that Rückl produced this décor or this shape. I do know that the mark has been associated with Kralik production. The key would be to find the shape in a definitive décor.

Me: Craig, I thought Kralik only used the Semi-Circular acid mark.

Craig: They are also linked to some straight marks, but one has to be careful. The marks are not a good method of ID in almost all cases... Like I said, I think the key to a solid ID will be based on a décor found on the shape which is identifiable.

I am not saying it is Kralik for sure, but I am saying that so far I have seen nothing in the way of sound evidence to link the shape, or décor for that matter, to Rückl. The same would apply to Welz... No link to them either. I do not believe it to be Welz production.

Me: Craig, Thank you for the info. It is appreciated as always.

I guess the bottom line is - Until that shape is found with another decor of a known manufacturer it will be difficult to pin down.

    I hope this info helps.

Yikes! They're multiplying. Doesn't that always happen? Don't see one in a decade, then see 4, then don't see them again for another decade?
