    And what country was it found in? It looks like military insignia, but not from the US or UK.

    Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

    Whatever it is the metal looks pretty thin to be partially 'disintegrated'.......or very, very old.........

    It's excavated; whatever was in the soil it was found in could have caused the thinning.

    It's an odd design. The depiction of the lion is not modern and not particularly heraldic. And the lion is not depicted against the swords, but rather seems to be biting them, the points coming out the back of its head.

    The swords look vaguely Roman (culture), but it doesn't look 1600-2000 yrs old.
    The fact that Roman (person) is posting from SE England doesn't mean he found it there. Please enlighten us, Roman.

    If this turns out to be a Roman named Roman posting about Roman antiques, I think I'm gonna start a bout of uncontrollable giggling...

    Shangas, I don't think Roman is a Roman Roman. His last name is not Roman, so it looks like Roman is a non-Roman Roman, posting a nice find with possible Roman symbolism.

    Sorry Roman, we get like this sometimes, nothing personal.:)
    Roman is one of my favourite first names btw.

    Without revealing too much, Roman is From Latvia but living and working in the UK.

    Now we just need him to return and give us more information.
    @Roman Nahodkin
    We need a photograph of the reverse, the weight and size and the metal composition, is it magnetic ?

    Which means it could have been found anywhere in northern Europe, or even while on holiday elsewhere.

    Straight edged short swords were sometimes issued to artillery units, the blade doing double duty as a measuring tool.
