I've got these two necklaces. I assumed dyed coral as they're set on costume hardware and that clear plastic string/wire/stuff. Not expecting anything big money but would like to learn!

The clasps are the old style but don't seem old to me, but the spacers do. Are these older beads restrung perhaps? What kind of coral is this, and is it dyed?

    Weird dent in this bead:

I want to put these up for sale but I trust you guys far more than the couple of listings online I've seen. These have a nice older clasp and are strung on old cotton. They look and feel ceramic but online they're listed as glass a lot. Identical necklaces (except circle shaped beads and black spacers) are being described as Art Deco opera glasses. I can't find sold examples. Whats the forums consensus?

What's this for? I don't think they wore necklaces like this in 1890..? If I'm right as to age. French marked for 800 silver. It seems too long for a watch chain (wrist watch for size), is it for a chatelaine or a similar practical jewelry piece?

    No.
Dyed sponge coral. Not precious coral.

I think it could be a bit later, but long necklaces were very fashionable in the 19th century and early 20th. Google guard chain or ladies watch chain.

Thank re the coral, good to know! If its not worth the trouble of listing, I might keep them around then. They're my favorite length so will be nice to wear.

Interesting that the watch/guard chains are in fact longer! Good to know, thank you!

I think the "opera length" necklace is possibly 1960s. I've had similar and they have some resale interest, but not huge value. Yours look to be some kind of stone (dyed?) possibly, they don't look like glass from the photos. The ones I've had have been glass, so not totally sure.
