Copper vases? Repousse work - where from? what for?

Picked up this set of 3 copper ...vases? Not sure if they're vases or exactly what they're for. About 8" (20cm) tall. The pictures tell more of the story than what I can describe:

Just as an observation after looking closer at these - I think they may have been silverplated at some point - if you look at pictures 3,5, and 7 - you can see what looks like some silver left on that one particular vase. Maybe?

 

I've looked at this several times.
Can't decide if they are old or new made to look old.

I'm thinking maybe India or someplace similar. Sconces for a center piece.

You're probably onto something there... and as cluttered just mentioned to ...centerpiece sconces / epergne. I had no idea what an epergne was before now - ha - and thank you both for your knowledge and willingness to share it!
