    Paging @Any Jewelry for starters.

What do you make of these two? I'm thinking India. Very well made tray, the fish and snakes are lovely. Box is BIG.

    Love those snakes!

When you say "Big" for size on the box, is it about 8" or 20cm across? Reminds me of a Chapati box, but not used to seeing a pierced style. It's very pretty. Please wait for others.

Seeing similar trays saying Kashmir, but they could be wrong.

Aren't they nice? I probably overpaid, but hey.

Bigger than chapatis, let me measure.

Box is about five inches high, eight across. If it's chapatis, you'd get a heck of a lot in it.

Size sounds about right for a chapati box. If you Ebay search you will see others in a similar general shape, esp. the handle and locking section. All the ones I've run across have been solid though, so maybe some other purpose?

It's pretty, that's for sure. If it is a chapati box, some get decent money.

Gorgeous, obb. I think the stunning plate is Iranian, and the box either from Pakistan or the Indian half of Kashmir.
Fish generally represent abundance, but in old Iranian mythology fish protect the root of the tree of all seeds (tree of life), and sea snakes devour anything they come across. So the plate could represent the protection of life against anything that could harm it.

This is a presentation plate with a pierced rim and bilingual inscription, made for Iran Aircraft Industries in a time when relations were good:

    Thanks folks!

@Any Jewelry - the Iranian/Persian examples look dead right. I like the symbolism.

inh, I can't get that link to work either, but the border is very very like.

Kashmiri/Pakistani borders - there seem to be a fair few similar chapati boxes out there. Makes sense.

Both are very well made and seem to have some good age. I really must resist keeping them. ;)
