I was trying to find the name of this pattern with no luck except "Ships Border". I don't see anything about it that resembles a ship, but maybe the British potties here can shed some light on the name? I believe the 3422 is the pattern number. (The pattern resembles a later Spode pattern called "Floral" or "Floral Bouquet" but it's on a swirled blank and the border is different.)
    Thanks, Janice

It won’t have a name, they hardly ever did. Just a number.

Thanks, OBB. Any idea why it's called Ships Border?

Not one. The flowers are anemones, pinks and chrysanthemums, with absolutely no relationship to ships!

"The border has a beautiful network of fine spirals in typical Spode fashion; it is known as the 'ships border' after a pattern depicting ships in a harbour - an example can be seen in the Spode Museum in Stoke-on-Trent."

Some dealer or other would have originated the name.

What an absolutely gorgeous platter. I have a thing for platters and chop plates. Would have a housefull of them if I weren't so level headed, LOL!
