After selling a George Russin painting I found at a local thrift store I went to my friend's antique shop (I usually only go there when I have money in my pocket!) to see if he had anything new.
He didn't but he asked me if I still wanted to buy a surreal(?) painting he'd bought when he went to Cuba back in the 90's & I always asked about when I went to his shop.
Turns out he'd had a slow week & needed cash and offered me the painting for $200. I told him I'd give him $150 & he agreed.
After getting home I googled Efren R. artist Cuban, and this came up but nothing else: https://vancouver.craigslist.org/van/clt/d/vancouver-vintage-oil-painting-cuba/7010604387.html

The signature is block letters like mine - is it the same artist?
Can anyone find any more about him/her?
    Thoughts on the painting?

    I appreciate any help.

Some place like... Almacenes San José perhaps? That is a possibility.

The two signatures don't appear to be from the same hand, the top is angled towards the right, the bottom is angled towards the left.

This painting is not surreal. It's a decorative fantasy painting with fish.

Another example: Paintings by Keith Haring were also not considered to be surrealism.
