Contemporary Pair Incised Paintings on Masonite

Any thoughts on these 'paintings'? I say paintings loosely. They are incised on masonite. Is there a proper term for this type of work? One signature that looks almost Italian. Souvenir art? Frames approx. 15.25 x 13.25 inches, unframed 10.25 x 8 inches.

Out of curiosity, have you removed it from the frame? It would be interesting to see if that is a Masonite backing a piece of linoleum which would be easier to incise.

 

I have not removed the backing - will do so on Monday when I am back in my office. Thank you!

 

Kinda looks like a woodblock print to me, could be a silkscreen if directly on the Masonite. Artist name doesn’t look Vietnamese.

I can see the cut marks now, probably not printed.

 

Yes the name looks Italian to me.....
