I found these 2 jewels packed away, tag on container says Native American container made from animal hide and fur, I think the other item is a hand drum, but am unsure if made by Native Americans, any insights good or bad gladly welcomed, thank you all for looking and commenting. container (800x609).jpg containerinside (800x608).jpg IMG_2043 (800x600) (800x600).jpg IMG_2039 (800x688) (2).jpg drumtop (800x675).jpg containertop (800x532).jpg containerside (800x631).jpg containerinside (800x608).jpg container (800x609).jpg

It's a bit early in the morning for me to offer more than a few questions.

The "container?" Does it have an inside removable part? A handle

Are both pieces the same size? And what might that be?

Which pic is the top of the drum?

I'm sure someone else will have further questions.

Hang on, someone will be along by Monday.

I would doubt that the one with the lid is Native American. Whenever you see drums, or lidded boxes, that are made with the hair still on the leather, the item is African, usually from east Africa, usually Ethioipian.

The drum, on the other hand, is in the style of a southwest Pueblo drum, traditionally made primarily by Taos and Cochiti. This size is a common size made for sale, larger ones are used in the dances at most of the pueblos. Similar souvenir drums are also now made by the Tarahumara, in Mexico, however, so it's a little difficult to identify this one, positively, based just on the photo.

The inside box photo isn't in focus. But the inside looks like birch bark which would put it well north of Africa.

Birchbark doesn't have long, vein-like markings like that. It has short, straight lines. This looks more like the back of scraped rawhide, which would make more sense, since the lid is laced together with rawhide strips.
