Complex pendant

Can anyone tell if this is stone or glass?

Looks like what they call blue lace agate.
Don't know if that is the official name.

But it is grey grey!

I still bet it's agate, though. I Googled gray lace agate oval bead and saw some likely candidates. Yours is obviously bigger than a bead, but I just used that to get the shape...

It could be stone but there are glass beads that look like stone, too. Sometimes looking at the edges around the hole can help... glass is more likely to have even edges while stone sometimes looks less even. But that's not always reliable with either type of bead.

 

I cannot see the edges.
I know it is very old, marble feels heavy and cold colder than metal around it.

 

Good thought, Pat. If you can shine a light from behind it, and if you see bubbles.... glass! Absence of bubbles doesn't ensure stone, but it might help, right Pat?
