Featured Cloisonne egg box

Ok so here is another purchase from Atlanta. This one was one of the more expensive pieces we purchased(but still reasonable). Now, an antique store down here told me this is an antique and valuable. But he fail to explain himself. In Atlanta the home owner was a lifetime collector and dealer and had every piece marked(tagged) with a dollar amount(do not know if that was his purchase price, appraisal or selling price(this had nothing to do with the estate sale price stickers) But this was marked high by him.

Ok, so with that all said, you can see blue, red, white and even violet all seem to have a foil like look with a clear coat on top. This is just my observation. The other colors seem to be flat. Is this something that would be considered antique? I have my doubts, but I have not seen any other pieces to compare this to. The antique dealer did call it flame blue. I really would appreciate any help on this item as it does seem different then all the other Cloisonne pieces I have seen.

Gorgeous, Marco. It is Japanese. The enamel on foil is a special technique called Ginbari.

 

Oops, forgot, yes antique, second half of the 19th century, Meiji period.

Is the style art tracable or does it all fall into the same era?

 

That transparent enamel is ginbari for sure; Any would know more about the age than I do, but it's old.

The beautiful Balinese dancer, probably wore a similar one to the Kings masquerade dance, as long as she got home by the stroke of midnight.......ummmm maybe that was a different story
