This is something that has been hanging around for a while. I came across it when I was gathering up all that military stuff to take to the auction house.

It looks to be in its original box but I just noticed that the holder is shorter than the indentation in the box.

    It measures 4 5/8" long.

I did test it for Bakelite but got no results.

Also, try as I might I could not read the logo on the lid of the box. The only word I did get was "Paris". So hopefully someone has encountered it before & can tell me what it says.

Middle part looks like an imitation shagreen

Alot of these were Amber, but this look too dark

What colour is the main parts, hard to tell ?

    Brown or black ?

    It's dark brown.

    Off to Google shagreen.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I did what I do, but I also missed reading where you said you COULD read 'Paris'....GREAT start!!! NOT sure I got anything constructive that you can make anything out of, and sorry for the bright colors....the ONLY way I could make anything stand out with a little contrasting light or dark!! Above 'Paris' it looks like initials C. G., the bottom of the triangle "LOOKS" like it could say MATHISS?? The rest I tried to lightly outline the letters I "thought" I could read....probably unsuccessfully..........NEAT Cigarette holder!!!:happy:

    Very elegant design, Peggy.:)
I think I read that not all bakelite colours test positive. Someone else may be able to tell you more about that.
That is odd, it has the same shape as the holder. Maybe extra space to flip the holder out of the case more easily?

Aquitaine is good at what she does! and Kyratango perfects it! It could be possible that the person had more than one "puff holder" and got it in the wrong box or the company used one size fits all boxes.

Agree with your first hypothesis, those boxes were absolutely fit for the piece they held. :)

Unfortunate because without the holder itself being marked, there's no telling who made it. Nevertheless, a lovely piece! I quit smoking in 1997 but I'd always wanted a snazzy cigarette holder.

Thanks to everyone for all comments & suggestions!!:happy: :kiss::kiss::kiss:

At least now I have some keywords that will maybe grab someone's attention.

Hopefully, someone will want it for the holder &/or the box when I get around to listing it. ;):):)
