How much weight? It could be silver plated.

Certainly could be Russian. I'd be over that with a loupe for marks. With any luck the maker got it inot his head to hide them.

Beautiful piece. Not very effective as a cigarette case. Your smokes would be stale pretty quickly. I guess if you were a pack a day or more guy it wouldn’t be a big issue though.

It would make a nice guitar pick holder.

Beautiful. Surprising it not marked somewhere.

It is gorgeous, @bobsyouruncle . It could have been made anywhere they make filigree, most likely somewhere in Europe.
The fact that it isn't marked speaks against Russian.

Did you also check the front for tiny marks? Dutch marks are often on the front of a piece, and they can be minute.
In many countries filigree doesn't require marking, either because the weight is very low or because it is often impossible to find enough surface for a mark.;)
Russian filigree usually has a silver or gold frame that can be marked, which is why Russian filigree should ideally be marked.
In countries where weight is a factor, the weight of a frame isn't enough to make it eligible for marking.

Look at the fastenings on both sides when open. These are probably for fastening elastic bands to hold cigarettes. I agree that the cigs would soon get stale. It might not hold King sized cigs. Which if so, would help date it. HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS

It looks too small for the filtered ones, but it would easily hold the hand-rolled non-tobacco variant of recent vintage. (the sort still illegal under USA federal law.)
