    Any thoughts on age or value of this?

    Welcome to the forum!! :happy::happy::happy:

    This is not what I would call an alter. It may well be a lectern, but I am use to the tops of those being tilted & I could not tell if yours was or not.

    Also some dimensions might help out the more learned folks. :):):)

    Click on Full Image and your pictures will show up in the post. Please post photos of the back & interior. I don't see anything particularly religious about this, unless there are religious symbols on the other side. FullSizeRender.jpg

    If that is an altar from a church it is one where even the church mice were starved out and the god went off to become a beach comber in Curacao.

    Mayhaps there's some Curacao hidden behind that door.

    DH said it "might" be an old icebox. Photos of the interior might help. Dimensions (size) might also help. ;)

    On the other hand, if it has any relationship with a church, perhaps it is simply where the communion wine was stored (without a locking mechanism apparently).

    I could easily see this in of of those pentecostal country churches I was drug to occasionally as a child .So tiny,so primitive,so blazing hot you could barely breathe !
    This looks like a homemade pulpit someone cobbled together. I rather like its simple honesty. :)

    Or prayer books.
    What are the dimensions? Is it high enough to be a homemade pulpit?
    It doesn't seem to have a sloped top.

    Lectern or pulpit appear to be correct, thank you. It is podium sized and I was told it came out of a small Texas town church. It is sloped on top. Will have to get better pics. What would the turning wood piece that has been added called to keep door shut?

    a ' keep the door closed add on ', because the wood warped and the metal lock no longer served it's function.....or so I'd presume...
