Grabbed this today. Chinese hand painted plate. At first I thought it was mid century but on closer inspection may possibly be older. It all looks hand painted including the red pattern around the rim. Also the red oxide mark on the back looked to be painted/drawn by hand. I have never seen one done like that before. It's usually just a stamp or a transfer. The plate is also really thick and heavy. It weighs 1300 grams. Diameter is 27cm. Sadly some damage on the face. It looks like tape or a sticker has been pealed off, which has removed some of the glaze.

Nice one is not that antique but not to new to me in 10sec viewing. 1970s & up.. you'll be surprised I seen a plate in that generation 1950s-80s go for 2,000$ different stamp mark, If I remember school of Jingdezhen mark it had

I saw that one on invaluable. I couldn't fathom where the value was in it. Generally they go for a lot less though.

Gotheborg agrees with 1970s or later.

    I’m pretty sure it’s printed.

Ditto. It could have a few hand painted details.

You might think different if you saw it close up. I'll try and get better photos. It's not smooth like your average transfer.

Chinese transfer prints are generally not smooth.

The mark has different concentrations of colour. You can see where the paint ink has pooled in some places and is thinner in others.

Perhaps a mixture of both. The leaves look printed some of the birds look hand painted.

I agree with that John. We were specifically discussing the mark on the reverse.

I wasn't either. Since you showed photos of the front as well, I thought we were discussing the entire plate, in which case the decorating technique is important.

Part transfer, part paint. Nice decoration, sometime in the 20th c and middle range quality. That's what my initial impressions would be if I picked up this plate in a store. :D
