Bought from a government store with certificate saying it’s 100 years old. The white vase base looks too uniform and clean to me. There’s a lot of detail. It stands 15cm high. Could it actually be old? Any advice appreciated. 4552952C-9F48-4F4C-8696-DFEDB4C1E7DD.jpeg 465E21B6-5E28-45F8-89D6-B7A2FCBDB5C0.jpeg 73DD482D-C055-4AEB-A46E-E07C97B7F83B.jpeg

I will stick my neck out and say this has a genuine look to me.

It’s almost certainly a recent piece bearing the mark of Wanli (1573-1619) and decorated in wucai palette. I think there are plenty of similar pieces knocking about on the internet. You might find that the base has deliberately been made to look old with some gunk which might wash off.

I'll vote for a reproduction, a picture of the certificate might be useful.

Also, it's illegal to export antiques from China.

Given the length of their history, their idea of what's antique may be different from ours.

That said, I always assume Chinese artifacts are not what they appear to be, certificate or no certificate.

Thanks all, yes sounds like my instinct of fake was right. Could it be an older reproduction? Assuming they’ve been faking them for some time.

I doubt that it would be more than a decade or so old and unless it were of better quality it wouldn't make much difference. I am fairly sure that it isn't Republic period - I don't think this type of vase was made then.
