I found this old sword which I think is a Katana, need help on the inscription and also if I'm correct in my assumption. It measures 41" loose and 42-1/2" in scabbard, blade measures 30" from tip to bottom of scabbard. Handle has stingray skin under worked wrapping with two floating rondells or fu dog faces and unknown plant? on pummel end. Has images on the guard but they are indiscernible. Any help in pointing me in the right direction swordk.jpg swordk.jpg swordn.jpg swordk.jpg swordn.jpg swords.jpg swordt.jpg swordu.jpg swordv.jpg swordg.jpg would be greatly appreciated

The Chinese didn't have katanas, would need a photo of the full blade. From the appearance it looks like a fantasy/souvenir piece. The designs, etc on the blade appear to be acid etched and not engraved. The habaki is "paper" thin and not functional, the design on the tsuba looks like a cheap imitation of wire inlay, and probably much more wrong with the whole sword.

I agree, a souvenir. Katana's are Japanese, but this may not have been made in Japan.
The unknown plant could be a musical instrument called a sho.

Just in case anyone wants to have a go at the translation, here is the text the right way up:

Hi Mario. I am not a sword expert and I hope someone with that knowledge will comment on your sword, but I have one from WW2 and a much older Japanese sword as well as one from Thailand and one from Myanmar. Is a little knowledge a dangerous thing? ;)
I think your sword is a combination of many parts and I think each piece needs to be considered separately. IMHO:
    1. The blade is a decorator piece but might have been used in Tai Chi or for Feng Shui practice. I've never seen one like this before, but the Chinese are masters at reproduction swords.
    2. The main writing is Chinese, but is there some Japanese on one side near the top of the blade in pic 3? You definitely need a translation.
    3. I wonder if the Kashira (pommel), the Fuchi (top blade collar), the Seppa (spacers), the Tsuba (guard), the Habaki (lower blade collar), are genuine but from another sword? I couldn't see in the pics, but does it have a Kojiri (a metal bottom tip) on the scabbard? If these items are genuine, they might be worth more in parts than the entire sword.
    4. I would disassemble the sword and assess each piece individually to determine their value.
    5. Do you plan to keep it or onsell? This might determine how accurately you want the sword identified.
I'm sorry I'm not more help but I am sure there is a sword expert in this Forum. Good luck.

I asked a customer from China if he could translate them and he said that the main ones are of a date of 1911 which was the year for a revolution and the second one is Chinese and Japanese like you say but he couldn't read it either. Could be that it is made from different parts but I wouldn't know where to start. Hopefully I'll hear something else on it. Thanks.

Yes, it had something on the tip of the scabbard but it's missing, you can see where it was on there.
