Chinese silk - can't find anywhere?

    Researched and cannot find a thing on this one. Bought it for a song at auction. Thanks.

    I would have thought Thai or Cambodia rather than Chinese, although the chop argues otherwise.

    Welcome, @Mike Mac Dnald.

    Your image looks like a rubbing of a carving of Guanyin, a "bodhisattva" in the Buddhist tradition. The original carving was probably located in a temple, but I have not been able to find it. There are many, many representations of Guanyin.

    Rubbings were usually done using paper and black ink. So there is the possibility the image on silk is actually a copy of a rubbing, enhanced with color.

    2many - thank you for the info, much appreciated. Totally unfamiliar with that method. Had no idea how they incorporated her image into the silk.
