This was a flea market find over the weekend. It appears to have some age. There are grooves along the inside which make me think it was hand turned instead of molded. Any help with age or meaning of the mark is greatly appreciated.

Most likely Japanese. Early 20th century maybe.

Does the inside of your vase appear to be hand turned too? Also there is an area on mine were it appears to have been red before being painted over with black.

Coiled, not turned. That can still be done by machine.

The famile noir glaze was faked during the 19th century by removing original red glaze and reglazing in black. so this may have happened to yours.

I've loaded a pictures of the inside and the bottom below. The vase is 17" tall. I don't see any signs of repainting. I suspect yours is a lot older than mine. Maybe by the time they got around to my vase they were making more realistic reproductions?

Hi komokwa - yes, it's a charger 20". Don't know much about it except it's marked with the word Japan and a chop mark. Don't think it has much age to it. I'll put a separate post up later with pictures.
