I got this bowl at a auction it just caught my eye and I had to have it. I tried to find who made it and info on it but no luck. If you know anything about it I would appreciate it. It is 10" across top and 4 3/4" tall and 4 3/4" across the bottom. Rose M Bowl-7.jpg Rose M Bowl-1.jpg Rose M Bowl-2.jpg Rose M Bowl-6.jpg

Go to gotheborg.com, click on Chinese marks on the left, scroll down to Guangxu Nian Zao. It's in that section.

    Guangxu 1875-1908

The reign of the Guangxu (Glorious Succession) Emperor lasted from 1875 to 1908. His name was Zaitian AISIN-GIORO. He was born August 14, 1871 and ascended the throne in 1875 at the age of four as the tenth emperor of the Manchu Qing dynasty and the ninth Qing emperor to rule over China proper. He was adopted by the Empress Dowager Cixi as her son.
Until age nineteen, in 1894, the Guangxu Emperor was "aided" in his rule by the Empress Dowager Cixi. Four years later, in 1898 at age 23, he initiated the Hundred Days' Reform in an attempt to modernize China which was abruptly stopped same year by Cixi, after which he was put under house arrest until his death in November 14, 1908. The cause of his death remains a mystery until this day.
He was succeeded by Empress Dowager Cixi's handpicked heir, his nephew Puyi, who became the Xuantong Emperor.

    Hello,

The pattern is called "Rose Medallion" (as say_it_slowly pointed out) which was a popular motif design. While it is a modern piece (done in the style of the Guangxu period - the Chinese constantly throughout their porcelain history referenced earlier styles in appreciation) it seems like it's quite high quality and hand painted so it was definitely worth the buy if you enjoy it. You will almost never find an individual maker as each porcelain piece is usually done by multiple experts (potters, glazers, enamelers/painters).

the potties will know what books.....all i can suggest 4 now...is to hunt down auction catalogs that have specific sales for this type of item....
While the prices asked...are not the sold ones.....they usually have decent written descriptions that will help you pick up tips to what you see ...........

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

You could study some of the listings of marks on the Gotheborg site. Even if you have no use for them right now. Just a thought; it's something I would do if interested.
