    Hi all,

I have a question about this bowl that I'm hoping someone can help me with.

Its non ferrous, I guess bronze but maybe copper? Im not sure how a bowl like this would be made traditionally but the seam indicates to me that it has been made using modern methods and is not as old as it looks?

    Thanks in advance,

    Calum

It appears to be Japanese. From the colour underneath it may be patinated antimony - antimony is relatively soft and also dense so items are heavy for their size, similar to bronze. If it is Japanese antimony it will be c1900-1930's

Thanks both, I hadn't heard of Antimony but having done some searching I think that it probably is. It is very heavy. Here's another couple of photos:

Yep does look like Japanese antimony wear. There is a bit of increased interest in these items at present, still the time to collect rather than sell though.
