Featured Chinese ivory carving

Another thing I bought out at my friend's place this afternoon - It's about 4" long, ivory, a humorous carving of a fellow sleeping off a few drinks ..presumably that's a wine flask under his pillow.

Well - I think it more likely after a night of inebriation he just didn't want to be too far from the pot. The inscription probably has something to do with lazy men.

Nah, I don't think so - I think that's a wine pot - he still has the glass in his other hand - it could depict the folk hero Wong Fei-hung (at least that's who I'm going to say it is!)

Or it could be 'I'm drunk, so what!'.

 

Inscription on the jar turned out to be just a brand name, probably a brand of wine but not any wine we are familiar with ..could be the eqivalent of our "XXX" possibly?
