    So this is the last piece from Atlanta’s trip with no markings. It has me at my wits end. As I mentioned in my post a few days ago “Ginbari Egg” the previous owner had his own tag on his perceive value of everything. Turns out for the most part he has been accurate.

    So for over a month I have been trying to find information on this piece but to no avail. There is no markings at all. He put a rather high price in the mid four digit area on it but there is no markings and hard to find a simular one online. Personally I think the foo dog is not special(well done)but I do like the hand painting. Also I do not think this was sold for export, something says it was in actual use for some time.

    Is the porcelain shape datable or underglaze painting style recognizable? Are the green spots on the foo dog everyday?

    Didn’t pay much at all but the previous owner’s tag is getting to me. It stated, Chinese Imari(which I thought was Japnese), I really would appreciate your opinion, I have respect for all in this forum and I can’t find anything. Thank you all.

    Someone just told me it is Kutani Shoza, and I can see some resemblance, but that flies in the face of the collectors Chinese tag..

    Still looking,(darn those that don’t sign their work :) ;)

    I would not give too much attention to that tag. Again, it is Kutani and 2nd half of the 20th c. It is Shoza STYLE, not by Shoza himself. The quality is far not good enough to be his work. Here is a similar one, this time with a Kutani Shoza mark on it, again, only indicating the style, not the maker. http://old.rigouwang.com/index.php/BidView/u218725215.html

    @Mat
    I've been coming back to this thread. Each time I look at the pictures, I focus on the Roosters.

    Any chance this was made for one of the Year of the Rooster?

    Hmm, I am not sure. I see a rooster and a hen? I guess in this case it is just a depiction of birds. Various birds are a common subject on Kutani porcelain.
