Chairs?

I was gifted these chairs by a family member and I’d love to learn more about them. So far I know they’re referred to as cane seats but that’s about it. Does anyone have any information about these types of chairs they’d like to share?

What you have is a press back chair with cane seat. The following explains the press back.

It would be a good idea for you to post pictures of both the upper portion of the seat and the underside. We'll be able to see whether the caning is original or modern.

 

Late 19th century kitchen chair. Can't tell wood from this picture. Value lies in having multiples.

 

Or sentimental value, of course.
