I purchased this chair at a used shop in Grand Rapids. I would appreciate any comments on possible age, period, or origin. It has no markings and appears from signs of wear to be fairly old.

    Thanks.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Interesting! There are furniture brainiacs here who will be able to help you. I am decidedly NOT a furniture brainiac, but I think it's very architectural-looking... sorta prairie-style... and a Stickley look from the same era? I like it.

Oh, and... hola, and welcome to the Forums!

I like it,but it sure looks like a homemade job from here . Looks like someone was copying mission style furniture.

It is a modern interpretation of mission style. I doubt if it is any older than 30 years. It could be shop made but is just as likely to have been made in a factory. Some of the furniture companies wanted to capitalize on the Mission craze of the 80s and 90s without making reproductions.

Thanks, gentlemen. Mission. Modern interpretation. Read up a bit on that. I hope I'll spot that next time I see it.

Keep it another 70-80 years and it will become antique or Americana

It looks a lot like a blonde oak end table I sold. Same squares were used for the front and back support "legs". My blonde oak was definitely 1950s. Which was my gut reaction to your pictures, but I'm not a furniture expert.

Grand Rapids - didn't they have a lot of furniture makers?

Thanks to everyone for the remarks. I haven't been able to find a piece anything like this chair on the internet, so I had to ask.
