    Hi folksies

this was another thing i bought from the same lady at the church fair, same price (£10)

thought it looked a nice quality, again so worth that

there was a moment when i thought possible gold

but pretty sure it isnt now

has 2 marks on it, but cant find any alike with the same mark

    Adouble
    Crown mark/stamp CM

then theres another stamp on a separate link

    im presuming rolled gold ?

    any help appreciated

    Very nice find, charlie.:)
Similar, doublé is roughly the same as rolled gold. Rolled gold is a layer of gold applied by pressure. Doublé gold can be applied by pressure or welded. It is a Continental term (and technique).

I suspect your watch chain and fob are German. Germany also uses the term Amerikaner Gold or Amerikaner Doublé, so there is a possibility the A stands for Amerikaner.

    About the term Amerikaner:
The Amerikaner Doublé technique was invented in Austria, but it was adopted in the US during the Civil War period when gold was scarce. For years Austria and Germany continued to use mainly gold, but the US makers had to use doublé, so doublé came to be known in Austria and Germany as "Americans gold" or Amerikaner Gold or Amerikaner Doublé.

Forgot to say, doublé uses 14, 18, or 22k gold. At least it does overhere in NL.
I believe rolled gold can use lower finesses as well, I have seen listings for 9ct rolled gold, for instance.
    Agree.:)

thats interesting as ive sold a few amerikaner pieces before (with a different mark), that always sold well, were a nice quality but i always sold them as plate

so were probably double/rolled as well

hi mate, yeah the center fob spins
not sure its its glass or amethyst, think glass probably
looks like it was original to the piece as theres no way of removing it
