Picked these three figurines up earlier. A right happy bunch. The female seems to have a peg or a stump in her hand. Not sure if she was supposed to have an axe to match the man's. The taller two are 19cm tall. The shorter fellow is 11cm tall.

Google led to many that look like the couple, with the same style of the bases, originating from Canada.

The lady one looks similar to some Russian work. My grandparents had a couple, man and women like that, but they were painted.

Thanks guys. The results I was getting were mainly 'Canadian folk'. Guess they could be from anywhere then

Does look like it might be Sancho Panza. So perhaps we should assume the couple are too.

Do you think they're meant to be holding staffs that have broken off?

Quite possibly. Theres something that doesn't add up. The man's axe has wood glue around the base. The lady seems to be holding a small peg and I can't understand why. It doesn't look like there's a break and it's well whittled but likely a good cover up
