Featured Carved Stone Statue

Wondering if anyone might know the region this is from. I believe that this is soapstone but I am not positive. Measures 6 1/4" tall, 5 3/4" wide and 3 3/4" deep.

 

Are you sure this is a carving, and not ceramic?
If it is carved stone, it would not be what is usually called soapstone in most parts of the world. However, there is a region of Kenya known for the very white soapstone found there, and also known as a center for carvings made of that stone.
This is much nicer than the current carvings from that area though.

I do not believe that it is ceramic. I have added another picture, of a small chip, that shows some of the texture.
