Carved Stone Egyptian Scarab

    It is drilled from end to end but too heavy and large ( 4 1/4" long) to be worn as amulet. I guess more like a paperweight souvenir from Egypt?

    They are Egyptian. I think some of these were originally meant to be wax seals but, these days, they are mass produced souvenirs. Primarily used as paperweights. Some of these are drilled like the smaller beads but I never really knew why. I I have never seen these large ones on any kind of cord. Most are soapstone but not sure if yours is or not.

These are becoming more popular, so they're making them in different shapes and different materials. This one is missing the wooden stick that would rest in the middle. It's rubbed across those pointed teeth to make a sound. Here's a frog one.
