Carved Black Stone Buffalos/Bizons Figurine, Native American?

    Any idea of the type of stone and the marks on the bottom?

    Looks like a Zuni fetish but you'll have to I.D. the carver to call it so.

    I forgot the size as usual. It is about 5" long. Are not the Zuni fetishes usually smaller?
    Also, not sure anymore if that is a stone.

    Looks like black onyx to me, I've seen plenty of larger Zuni carvings. I don't see any reason to believe this one isn't Zuni.

    If the carving is very lightweight it could be jet (sometimes called fossilized coal - but I'm not sure how accurate this is) ... Oh and the inlaid stone arrow is called a 'heartline'.

    Did you know that when jet wasn't readily available SW artists would use pieces cut from vinyl records , in their place...!
