I recently returned from Sweden where I bought this Carl Larsson print. In the lower right corner it's marked CL 1911. I checked it with a loupe, and the lines look just like a drawing - not the little dots of a contemporary print. Is anyone out there familiar with his work? Below the print is "Carl Larsson Falugarden". I really like to know the age; if the 1911 is accurate. I know he has always been extremely popular in Sweden and his work has been reprinted everywhere.

If you Google images carl larsson falun garden print, you will find several examples in monochrome and color. I didn't read the descriptions, but you may find some information.

Regular little dots are the tell-tale sign of a print produced via offset lithography. But there are processes that have been used to reproduce paintings other than offset lithographs.

For instance, the Swiss in particular used a process that doesn't have dots and is capable of producing very nice quality prints. They were reasonably priced since the process allowed the prints to be mass-produced.

The Swiss company Stehli Bros produced fine art prints and many postcards using this process and, if I remember correctly, may have been the company that developed it.

Carl Larsson was all over the place for a while - prints, stationery, etc. I think it was in the 70's.

Thank you for your suggestions. I have looked at many Google images of his work, but I haven't been able to find this exact picture.

If it is blue as shown, it could be a cyanotype... a process that was in use at that time. Since it is monochrome, my guess is that the print is older rather than newer. I think within a decade of the painting's date is probably not out of line.
