Can you tell me anything about this chair?

    Hello, all.
This is another one of our "old pieces of furniture that has been in the family forever." It has been reupholstered a few times, but at one point it had black needlepoint upholstery on it.

The finish is very smooth, which continues on the backside as well. The last upholsterer guessed that it was oak. There is an imprecise carving of a face on the top.

I am curious as to its origin and approximate age.

    Thank you.

Spanish in style , if not in fact. Circa 1920, I would think. While the very top piece looks like it could be oak, the rest does not. Maybe walnut or mixed woods stained to mimic walnut.

Thank you. I never noticed the seam at the top, which is visible from the back. We have many vintage chairs and other furniture, but this is the smoothest-finished piece we have.
