Can someone help identify this rocking chair?

Hello all. I inherited a rocking chair from my late grandmother, an I've been told it was HER grandmother's before her. It has no maker's mark or any other identifying marks under it, but it has these distinct finger grooves.

The arms are coming off/no longer secured (I'll post pictures to show what I mean), and the upholstery has holes in it, so I want to get it repaired, but not knowing who made it makes me hesitate. I've seen many people on Antiques Roadshow destroy beautiful pieces by not knowing ahead of time what precautions to take an where to take them, and what to leave intact, so I just want to make sure I know what I'm doing here.

Brad is Mr. Furniture and I'm sure will be along. My gut feel is that it was an inexpensive chair to begin with, not a masterpiece by a great maker, and you don't have to worry about devaluing it with repairs.

That would actually be good news if your gut is right. I have a toddler so a valuable antique is intimidating to have in the house.

    I think what you have is a 1930s - 40s platform rocker.
Not particularly valuable, and particularly not in the condition it is in.

I find these to be comfortable with good back support.
If you like it and like sitting in it then reupholster it and enjoy it.

Clutteredcloset has this one. Can't tell that it is a platform rocker for sure from this pic but the runners don't look long enough to be a regular rocker.

    Two other photos.

Sounds like it's safe to reupholster, then? With it being so old, and the foam poking through, I just worry. I'm not too familiar with what chemicals might have been used during manufacture, or if it's home to anything gross, and with a toddler I don't particularly want to risk it.

Yep .... platform rocker. Just replace any old stuffing/foam with new and you should be fine.
