Can "patent pending" ever signify high quality?

I am wondering if "patent pending" can ever signify high quality?

For instance, if it tests for gold but you don't want to destroy it with an acid test, is there a chance that it may have a high amount of gold?

What about more quality vintage items in general?

As far as I know, patent pending applies to the design, not the material.

Quality vintage and antique items are recognized by their quality. Whether the manufacturer has applied for a patent has no bearing on that.

No, my answer would be no, there is no relationship between patent pending and higher quality.:)

My question is could "patent pending" stamped on a piece of jewelry cancel out any chance it's a quality piece of jewelry.

Creating a patent for something may mean that one wants to produce a lot of the item with cheaper materials.

Curious if there are any examples of high priced jewelry having that stamp.

You won't find it on the actual jewelry piece,it would only be on findings.Jewelry would have a trade mark, example of a patent process used for jewelry.

I have had costume pieces where the design of the jewelry was patented and in those cases the stamp was on the jewelry, not the findings. Trade marks, copyrights and registration marks did not come into use until design patents were not longer used, sometime in the mid 1950s I think.

It's hard to see, but this is a patent number before the Coro name:

In the UK, jewellery is found with registered design numbers, registration diamonds and copyright symbols. For the design, not the findings. I've a nice old Victorian brooch or two with diamond marks.

A pat pending mark does not tell you anything about the quality of the materials used. If there is a question about the metal, it would have to be tested.

I am wondering though if anyone has ever seen anything valuable that had it on it.

I'm wondering if it would be because of aesthetic value and rarity, rather than metals. Or, if it was because of the subject matter, like a Shirley Temple themed jewelry, etc.

Thanks to everyone again for the helpful insight into this subject.
