I know it's gold, however too old for a hallmark, I believe it's may be Victorian?
I am not sure about the stone, maybe a Ruby or Garnet, the star has a tiny Green stone set in the centre, it was given to me in the box photographed, but I have no idea if this is the original box or if it came from somewhere else? Are there any experts here who can give some information.
    Thanks in advance

I'd think mid to late 19th. The box does look a little later. Might be garnet. Can you get a clearer image please?

No and I am sure the family member who owned it before wasn't either, I don't know of any Jewish heritage

Hi Rebecca, it is not too old for a hallmark, pieces a lot older are hallmarked. All I can say is the maker didn't bother for whatever reason.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter, it's a lovely ring :)

Hallmarks are often lost as rings are resized over the years, too.
    Lovely ring!

Looks like a ruby with a tourmaline or even an emerald in the center.

The Victorians used six-pointed stars sometimes because they could. I've found them on decorative items before that had nothing to do with Judaism.

I can do jew-ish pretty well! Not my personal taste but we all must make sacrifices.

The six pointed star has been used on Islamic Moroccan coins for centuries.
It was also used on the US 3 cent coin 1865-1889.

I think the star on this ring is not depicting any particular country or faith.

Ditto. It is a gorgeous little ring.
While jewellery of that period is often marked, marking wasn't done everywhere, and in some countries marking requirements could also depend on the weight.
    Agree. Or any order.
It started out as a very pretty way to attach a cabochon to a setting, and ended up being a design feature. There are also rosettes, with the same origin and evolution.

Just wondering, is that Darlington in county Durham, England?

It's absolutely our Darlington, I know that road.

I agree, the star is simply a design. Much Victorian and Georgian stuff isn't marked here, even some Edwardian and Art Deco. In my experience, you don't reliably get hallmarks till post WW2 items.
