Can anyone tell me anything about this oriental art

    Just looking for some info on this. It was given to me by my exwifes boss.

    It is a Japanese painting of Daruma Daishi (Bodhidharma), the Buddhist teacher who founded Chan Buddhism in China, which became Zen in Japan.
    He is portrayed with large, bulging eyes because he is said to have cut off his eyelids so he wouldn't fall asleep during his quest for enlightenment.

    Lol I know it was sideways, but I used my phone and I had to download at least 3 diff apps before getting it to fit so when it actually let me post it I just left it alone.

    Thank you so much for the info, Ive had this for over 8 yrs and had no idea who it was. Do you have any idea if this particular painting is rare or mass produced etc... ?

    There are a lot of Daruma paintings and prints. The subject and execution are not rare.
    I can't tell from the photo's if it is a print, so I have no idea if it is mass produced. Judging from the way it is framed I would think it is a painting.

    Yeah Its hard to tell through photos, I get what youre saying and thats what I was thinking about the frame its real glass and kinda heavy wood.
