That's as close as I could get with my PC camera. It says La Belle China though

Looks like it was used for by the wife to crack the husband over his skull for some reason - hence the crack on the bottom!!! :):):):)

Yes, it could very well be! I don't care for it, but have had it knocking around forever trying to figure out if it was used for coffee, but you know I've been married for almost 50 years and never have used it on the hubby!

No, I thought it was a really funny response! I laughed, don't get me wrong! I was just saying I haven't had to use it on him, "yet". You never know what the future holds!

It looks so clunky for a chocolate pot, but maybe. I just refer to it as the "porcelain coffee pot for the Vermont farm." I want to get rid of it, but would like to know something about it first.

I don’t see many items with a metal lid, mostly syrups, which this is not.

    Is the lid affixed?

I think chocolate because the spout is so high up.

I would have never thought about the height of the spout. Thank you!
Yes it is. It does open like a syrup container though. It's just so odd.

There are plenty wider chocolate pots, I don’t see one with a metal lid, maybe someone will find one.

I hope so. It's been a conundrum for me for years. To me it looks like a cross between a tall chamber pot with a spout and a coffee pot. I just don't think it is very pretty.

Maybe a replacement for a missing or broken porcelain lid?

In "The Outing" by Dylan Thomas, there's a woman who buys porcelain figurines by the gross. When her husband comes home drunk, she has to stand on a chair to bust one over his head.

That's a Wheeling Pottery mark if that helps at all.

    From DeBolt's marks book.
