Hello I've just purchased this inkwell but I have absolutely no idea as to it's age. I'd hate to call it art nouveau without being certain as the acorn finial can be used to denote prosperity regardless of era. I'm surmising it is Victorian and bronze with lead crystal green glass as its quite heavy. I purchased it for £35 is it worth re-gilding? Many thanks in advance, Wayne. DSC_0019.JPG

Looks really pretty. Could we see more views, including the bottom? Finial looks more like a pine cone to me.

Welcome, Wayne. Please don't start a new thread, you can add a lot of photos to this one. Why can't you upload?

Yes, as AJ said, please don't restart the thread. You have to get your photos under 1MB each & you can add them in follow up posts like this one. You don't need to try to edit your initial posting to get them in there. :)

If we kept statistics on first time posts, I think we'd learn fully 85% of people have trouble with photos their first time out. Particularly if they are using their phone's camera. You did something right off we usually have to ask for: you made your photo full size instead of leaving it as a thumbnail.

This is sweet but is not Art Nouveau!

Thank you Marie it was listed on Ebay as Art Nouveau but I had a funny feeling it wasn't. I have no plans to sell it on but I would like to know an era and style. I'm guessing it was ormolu at some stage but age has taken it back to bronze

Did you surmise this because of the plastic in the feet or something else?
