I have it on my own Watch List but will not wade into the fray with this many bidders already snapping at it. If it stays at a price you like, I say go for it. It is very nice: well carved; good condition; fairly large; quality convertible mount. It is also absolutely filthy, but not in any way that should leave it marred for life. It should look even nicer after a bubble bath. (I use a dab of dish washing liquid in tepid water, a long soak & a very soft toothbrush.) Cut in helmet shell, the subject is topical to the season: based on depictions of Archangel Saint Gabriel, the 'Annunciation Angel', who appeared to Mary with some unexpected news. :writer::turtle:

You will have to rely on others for cameo information, but I can tell you that that seller is well respected and thought of on ebay.

BTW, it currently has 90 other watchers besides thee & me. If you go after it, good luck!

Watchers don't always bid. I hope in this case none of them do, except for either of you, of course. I hope it won't be a bidding war between the two of you.:(

    ??
If you bid...it should show up right away....
Watchers are nice...means folks are looking.....doesn't though mean anyone will bid !

If your name starts with the digit "8" - it does show your bid - it's just that the current bid isn't up to your "max" bid of 126 yet - which is good :)

Bids show up virtually instantaneously, unless the Internet connection is unusually slow. However, you can find yourself outbid the instant you put in your bid since an earlier bid can be higher than yours without that being evident until the bid is challenged. The automated system will show the max bid if it is matched or exceeded, but will show only the minimum needed to stay in the lead if the top bid exceeds the second place bid by more than the required increment. The bidding history is on this page (as of writing 28 bids from 21 individuals):

    https://www.ebay.com/bfl/viewbids/292355209932?item=292355209932&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565

See a newcomer has joined in, is that you? If the bid entered was for $100, only the $97.02 needed to beat previous high bid of $96.02 is shown. The max won't be revealed until someone else bids at least $99, since the minimum increment at this level is $1. The eBay system works like having given someone authority to bid for you at a live auction in increments set by auctioneer, up to a specified limit. It only bids for you the minimum needed to win & only reaches your max bid if that's what it takes. If bidding goes past your max you need to bid again to stay in.

I have mentioned elsewhere that the cameo market has become very unpredictable; my ability to prognosticate is not what it once was. I can confidently predict that there will be a flurry of bids in the several seconds before the end. If any bidder has given a very high limit to a sniping service, that is going to take it. If you're bidding manually, you can't beat if for speed, only for amount. It's best to decide what your max is & bid it as close to auction end as you can. The more in advance you bid, the more opportunity you give other bidders to get around you.

I'm watching this one from the sidelines. I have shown my latest splurge in the thread about what we've bought ourselves for Christmas.

Aquitaine's own user name probably does not start with '8'. The rest of us see 8***u, with an indication that bidder is a newbie, but bidder sees their own ID & does not know the anonymous ID assigned by eBay unless told by someone else. So A., you will henceforth be known in the universe of other bidders as 8***u.

Aha - that makes sense. Thanks Bronwen - still I imagine that that is Aqua's bid.

Aqui has confirmed to me that it is indeed her bid. These assigned IDs appear to stay with you across auctions, not be assigned anew each time. I sometimes find myself in competition with other bidders I know I have been up against before.

My Rosi cameo just got here. Excuse me while I go rip the box open.
