....Ferryman

So it’s a print obviously. I think it may actually be “Hailing the Ferry” by Danial Ridgeway Knight, and it’s in really sad shape.
It says “from original” in the lower right margin and “painted by Ridgeway Knight” in the lower left. I found quite a few prints online but not this exact version. Despite the damages it’s a pretty stunning print, almost photographic in a way.
I’m wondering how old is the print and whether it may be worth “stabilizing” or cleaning up just a bit.
Opinions welcome and appreciated!

frame it ....over the border and put a brass plaque on the frame with the proper title..

 

Amazing. You're right it is almost photographic. I know nothing about restoration - can't help you there.

 

Per the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts, "Purchased by John H. Converse soon after its 1888 exhibition in Philadelphia, 'Hailing the Ferry' was widely reproduced as a popular print and textile design." Given condition -- tear, staining and foxing -- and fact unlikely to be rare, doubt if your print has much value.

Certainly something I would NEVER try myself, more wondering if there’s any value that would warrant spending a few bucks having it cleaned-up. And I like @komokwa ‘s idea about framing/bordering it tight.
